Creattica is a design gallery. Anyone can upload work for consideration, but not all will be accepted. Those that are chosen are featured in the gallery; their work is available for view along with links to their websites.
This application is a creation of Envato, a startup that aggressively launches new websites.
Creattica is a free forum for creative professionals to showcase their work. It does not promote any one submitter, but considers items before allowing them on the site. While one would expect all submissions to be of the highest quality because of this, there is clearly a range of quality.
To submit an item for approval, users offer a title, related URL if necessary, category of the item, and upload preview images. Description, keywords, and color tags may be added as well. The process is quite simple.
When viewing submitted works, users may browse by category or search for a particular keyword. Results may also be filtered by budget and location. Users can follow submitters – referred to on the site as creatives – for fast viewing of any updates.
What may be confusing to users is that the “Related Projects” links below the item in view are NOT submissions by the same creative. In fact, they do not seem related in any way at all. They do not share a common style, submitter, color palette, subject matter, or even type of project.
Another off-putting feature is the link to the submitter’s website. Though Creattica is not at fault for this, perhaps they should advise creatives that Facebook and Flickr are not effective or professional. Better to list only contact information without a website if one is not available.
Registration only requires an email address and password. An email with activation link is then generated. Once redirected to the site, the user chooses a display name, profession, country, general budget, and avatar. Users may also add links to individual websites and Twitter accounts.
Creattica is completely free to use.
This application is meant for creative design professionals to connect with those seeking their services. Users seeking designers for a variety of projects, including logos, graphics, and photography will find a large selection with links to contact the artists.
